Very few of these were produced and the track set is truly one of the best Hot Wheels track sets ever made. If you found all 35 cars, collected the proof of purchases, you could mail in for the Ultimate Track Set. Also, this was the first appearance of the 5 spoke co-molded wheels in the Hot Wheels line. The series had several short run cars that are much harder to find and very expensive in the secondary market. So, as far as organizing goes, each car was labeled directly on the car with a number, 1 through 35. The complete set was limited to a 1000 piece run, so not a lot of them are floating around.
Also, there was a couple special sets made, one was a Zamac version of the five "leader" cars avialable through the Redlines Club online, the other was a complete set of 35 cars also exclusive to the the Redline Club that had a 36th car, a black Zedd car, that only was available in the set and is highly sought after. The cars are divided into 5 groups of seven cars, seen below. The series ran in conjunction with the 35th anniversary of Hot Wheels, hence the reference to Highway 35.
It was basically a vehicle for selling toys to kids, as is a lot of Mattel's thought process for cartoons.
Hot Wheels Highway 35 World Race is a line of cars sold in 2003 derived from a feature length made-for-TV movie of the same name.
